Watercolour Torii Gate!
Welcome back to the Nik Nak Box!
As stated in a previous post, I have been very interested in watercolour lately and have created many watercolour images. One of those is a postcard, featuring an image of a Japanese torii gate.
If you don't know what a torii gate is, it is a large red gate that commonly marks the entrance to a Shinto shrine. You will probably know the large torii gate in Miyajima that is in the sea (just Google it).
Inspired by a trip to Japan and specifically Miyajima, I created a watercolour postcard with a large torii gate in the centre.
*Note: I use a watercolour brush that has an in-built water container and a small two-tied watercolour palette, by the brand Koh-I-Noor Hardtmuth.
I created the background first, using a dark blue for the sky, a green for the mountains in the background and a bluey-green for the sea. I then painted on the bright red torii gate, adding a green accent up the top.
While it is inspired by the gate in Miyajima, the postcard features some of my creative license and is not an exact replica :)
I really enjoyed painting this postcard and I hope the person who received it liked it!
